IN PROGRESS: JONATHAN ADLER: ACCENT RUGS FOR RETAIL (2025)

Category: Product Design / Textile Design

This project involved creating original rug artwork for Jonathan Adler’s first retail collections developed specifically for retailers such as TJMaxx and Burlington. The designs needed to translate Adler’s bold, playful design language into a more commercially viable aesthetic suited for large-scale retail distribution.

Goal:

Balance Jonathan Adler’s signature use of color, pattern, and personality with the more understated trends of the commercial retail market. The objective was to create designs that felt elevated and recognizable as “Adler,” while remaining accessible, versatile, and market-appropriate for a broader retail audience.

Solution:

Develop original patterns that leveraged strategic use of print, color, and repetition to create visual interest without overwhelming the eye. By softening palettes, simplifying forms, and refining contrast, the designs maintained Adler’s integrity while aligning with wholesale consumer expectations. The result was a cohesive first batch of rug designs that successfully bridged bold creativity and commercial appeal.
